Palm Pre 2 review

An upgrade to the original Palm Pre, the Palm Pre 2 offers the same speedy performance and pocket-friendly size with minor improvements.  Read our Palm Pre 2 review to find out if this curvy phone with its physical keyboard is worth buying.

The 1GHz processor in the Palm Pre 2 combined with its webOS 2.0 operating system keeps the phone running smoothly and the redesigned web browser is both fast and simplistic.  The front of the Palm Pre 2 sports a vibrant 3.1-inch TFT capacitive touch screen display and slides up to reveal a physical QWERTY keyboard.

While webOS offers a wide selection of apps, it lacks the same market size of other operating systems such as Android.  Palm Pre owners may find their app selection slightly limited compared to other smartphones.  Its rounded design lets it easily slide into pockets though the physical keyboard adds to the phones overall thickness.

The Palm Pre 2 comes equipped with a 5-megapixel camera.  Though it is not as high resolution as other smartphone cameras, it produces colourful shots in good lighting conditions.  An LED flash makes shots in poor lighting possible, though they tend to show more noise.  The camera lacks an autofocus so users may manually need to adjust the settings for the best quality.

Internally the phone has 16GB of storage.  While this should be sufficient for most users, it lacks a microSD card slot for external storage.  Overall, the Palm Pre 2 is still very similar to the original Palm Pre, which earned high marks with most mobile phone reviewers.  Subtle upgrades make the Palm Pre 2 speedier and the upgrades to webOS 2.0 make it more fluid and user friendly.  Though not a major overhaul, the Palm Pre 2 is still an impressive smartphone at a reasonable price.
